Comments will be taken into consideration as part of the planning process and a decision on the application is expected in the Autumn 2021.

Councillor Munur, Bexley’s Cabinet Member for Growth said:

“The proposal for Riverside Gardens is central to the regeneration story of Erith. By working closely with the local community and the GLA we aim to create a public space that everyone can be proud of. We are delighted to see the renovation of the Gardens move towards reality.”

The Gardens are getting a refresh as part of the funding secured from the Mayor of London’s Good Growth Fund, by London Borough of Bexley’s Greater Erith Programme.

Local people have already had the chance to give their feedback on how they think the gardens could be improved at various public consultation events which have already taken place. To ensure that a broad range of views were obtained Groundwork London were employed to lead the community design process in partnership with London Borough of Bexley.

Erect Architecture, who won the competitive tender process to lead on the design and who have previously worked on parks projects at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, have been busy studying the themes and comments from this community consultation. The initial design ideas were displayed in Erith Library in February 2020 and have since been developed into the planning submission that is available online.

The designs shown are for all the works proposed to the Gardens, although not everything will be delivered on the ground at once. The works will be phased depending on when funding becomes available. For more information on this please refer to the detailed application on the Planning Portal.

You can follow the journey of the designs and find the reports from the different stages of consultation under Riverside Gardens.

The improvements will build on previous regeneration work funded by the Council and the Mayor of London through their partnership project the Greater Erith Programme.
